Technologies of a society
Technologies don’t appear out of the blue: their origins are embedded in a social context.
There are always people who develop and dominate technology and decide how it is used. From this perspective, TA-SWISS always also incorporates the socio-cultural context of the technologies being analysed in its studies.
In the «Social and Cultural TA» (SoCuTA) sector, social questions are coming even more under the spotlight. The object of the investigation in this case are so-called «social technologies», i.e. technologies that seek to make use of society’s knowledge of social and cultural sciences to resolve practical questions. One example would be the investigation into the opportunities and risks of using technical innovations in politics and administration.
