International projects
New technologies raise political, ethical and practical questions in many countries. In order to respond to these questions, there are a number of institutions responsible for assessing technological options which operate around the world. Conscious of the fact that new technologies need to be considered beyond national borders, the principal actors in this domain in Europe created the EPTA Network (European Parliamentary Technology Assessment), whose aim, at the European level, is to promote the results of each member institution, to strengthen the links between the different TA centres, and to encourage the development of TA. From this perspective, certain members of the EPTA carry out joint international projects. TA-SWISS, for instance, regularly collaborates on international projects in various domains, such as the protection of personal data, energy, or genetically modified organisms. Whether they are based on scientific studies, or on participative methods which give ordinary citizens a voice, the results of these projects provide an international view of a particular subject.
